This Cusco South Valley Tour (Tipón, Pikillacta, and Andahuaylillas) takes you to the unique and magnificent archaeological site of Tipón, where you will admire the impressive Inca irrigation system. Next, you will visit Pikillacta, where you will discover the remarkable urban planning of the Wari culture.
After visiting Pikillacta, we continue to Andahuaylillas, home to the famous “Sistine Chapel of the Americas,” known for its stunning 17th-century mural paintings.
The tour begins with hotel pickup at 8:40 a.m., followed by transportation to the first stop, Tipón. This impressive agricultural site features 12 terraces that are still cultivated today, with walls built from finely carved stones. Even more remarkable is its irrigation system, which continues to function and support agriculture, especially during the spring season.
We then continue to Pikillaqta, a large urban center from the Wari Empire, featuring over a thousand structures including plazas, colcas (food storage buildings), residential areas, temples, and long narrow streets. Some of its buildings reached up to four stories in height.
Finally, we visit Andahuaylillas, a typical Andean village from the colonial period with unique origins and architecture. Its highlight is the Catholic church, renowned for its beautiful decoration and mural paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, earning it the nickname “The Sistine Chapel of Cusco.”
We will return to the city of Cusco at approximately 3:30 p.m.
